MODY SUITES for OLYMPICS 2016 [ projects, living, urban ]
2 years ahead of the World Cup 2014 and Olympic Games 2016, Rio de Janeiro is still short of 15.000 rooms for the media village. “Mody”, all inclusive, turn key boutique apartments, developed by Elastik, has been requested as a solution for the 5000 rooms on two distinguished locations in Rio.
Convinced that prefab buildings usually do not live up to the demands of modern urbanites, and tend to be not that esthetically pleasing, Elastik has developed a modular, modestly priced, all inclusive housing unit that combines state-of-the-art production methods with contemporary design standards. Perfectly suited for hotel rooms (both long and short stay) and (temporary) living, the MODY modules come completely furnished and ready to be lived in.
The designed system of Mody allows quick and economical conversion of single suites into the multiple rooms apartments after the major events in Rio complete in 2016.
Barra location is a temporary, green satellite-like location, with an immediate proximity to the Barra peninsula, one of the four mayor Olympic 2016 areas. A mixed use, permeable green courtyards, with newly established road infrastructure is proposed with capacity of approximately 2800 apartments. The kinetic facades of the Mody system are clearly differentiating local atmospheres and journeys of this green media village.
Approaching World Cup 2014 is taking place near Maracana stadium, where gray industrial areas will be re-used and up-cycled into the new vital urban tissues. The existing structure will transformed into a matrix of courtyards with high diagonal permeable flow. Mody suites will be transformed into various set of apartments after 2016.
